1. From All White to Bolder Color in Kitchens
All white kitchens have been very popular and almost the norm for the past few years, but for 2018, we can expect to see an increase in color for kitchen design from cabinetry to sink materials. Expect to see bolder color choices that range from natural neutrals to charcoal to sage providing a more chic and sophisticated alternative to modern homes. To complement the darker palette, we can also expect to see a shift from stainless and all white sinks to more color-rich materials such as copper, concrete, and granite.
2. From Solid Color Walls to Patterned Wallpaper
Solid painted walls will soon be a thing of the past, and wallpaper coverings will be making a huge impact in 2018. From florals to abstract designs, wallpaper is an effortless and quick way to add texture and style to any room. Expect to see more nature inspired prints and very modern geometric patterns making rooms more interesting this year.
3. Pay More Attention to Ceilings
From plain boring ceilings to more creative moldings, paint, and plasters, you can expect to see more attention to ceiling treatments when looking overhead. Adding a dramatic effect to the ceiling is a design element that is here to stay for 2018. It is also a great way to delineate spaces without changing the flooring material.
4. From Sharp Edges to Curves
In the upcoming year, we can expect to see an influx of softer more organic curves versus the popular sharp-edge designs in all types of furniture from armchairs to bar carts to rugs. Where we would normally see a preference for sharp-edges, we will now see a pique in interest for pieces with soft curves. Furniture with curves that hug you such as u-shaped chairs will be more popular as they create a cozier and more inviting space.
