• SOFA
Sofas are usually the central element in any living and family room setting. They are essential in any residential space and are frequently used pieces of furniture. They often make up a large volume of the visual in the space, and as such the selection of one is important.
When choosing one keep in mind the functionality of the space, is it more of a formal setting or is it more of a family space. This will allow you choose one that works best for your space in the terms of style, shape and comfort.
• LOUNGE CHAIR
Whenever I think of lounge chairs, I picture them as an accompaniment to the sofa or the bed, they complement these larger pieces of furniture very well. But the great thing about lounge chairs is how versatile they are, they can be used in multiple spaces like the typical living and family room or in a bedroom, outdoor space or even a theatre / cinema room to recreate a full cinema seating experience.
The great thing about them is the fact that they can be accompaniments but also be extraordinarily strong standalones in any space. They are fun to use as they can be quite striking in a room, whilst allowing you to have a bold element in an otherwise subtly designed space.
• DINING CHAIR
When most people think of dining chairs, they picture an upright seating chair that must be formal. Honestly, I don’t fully believe in that mindset, yes, they do have to be formal depending on the setting, but don’t feel restricted to only looking through your typical dining chair styles, you can experiment with different types of chairs, and even benches in your dining room setting.
What matters is its functionality for your use, the comfort level based on the duration of use and how much you want to be bold with that space. Dining areas can be great wow factors in a space, and as such have fun with your dining chair selection.
• BAR STOOL (OR COUNTER HEIGHT STOOL
I love bar stools; I think they can serve as bold one-off pieces in a space. They come in all types of materials, ranging from wood, plastic, metal and fully upholstered. Most furniture designers are also experimenting with different forms for bar stools, and some of them are gorgeous and will serve as great accent pieces to your bar or kitchen island.
• BENCH
I enjoy designing with benches, adding them to an otherwise empty hallway can sometimes elevate that space, whilst also creating a focal and resting point. I picture them as pieces of art, they don’t necessarily have to be functional, as they are often occasional use. As a result you can really get away with one that is truly sculptural. The good thing with them is that whilst they don’t have to be functional, they can also serve as additional seating when needed or be more functional when included in a mud room or a space where you entertain often.
• DAY BED (CHAISE LOUNGE)
I love day beds, there’s something very chic and sophisticated about them. When they were created, they were designed to elevate honored guests, as a result they were often ornate and looked like pieces of art.
Now they serve as a nice piece of furniture to escape to, a place where you can relax and get comfortable in, while reading a book, sipping a drink or having a quick nap
• TEXTILE
Fabric selection for upholstery is something I enjoy, the ability to transform a piece of upholstery by simply changing the fabric is something that excites me. Taking a beautiful sofa and upholstering it in a stunning buttery soft leather or a sumptuous velvet, and seeing it transform in style, is something that is truly magical.
