Last week, I was featured in a segment on KPRC’s Houston Life sharing a few current fashion trends that are emerging in the home design and decor realm for the fall season. (You can watch the live segment, here.) It was so much fun to talk about how fashion and interiors overlap and how trends transcend through both. My long time friend Sarrah Zadeh of La Mochi and senior designer Mia Yamada, both modeled in the show and wore AMAZING fashions from Baanou located in the River Oaks District here in Houston.
For the segment, I shared five trends that we will see trending this fall in home design and decor that are directly related to the runways.
Today, I will give a breakdown of what’s trending from the runways to your home this fall.
OVERSCALE GRAPHICS/ BOLD PRINTS AND PATTERNS
After being a huge hit in the fashion world, overscale graphics are everywhere when relating to interior design. From wallpapers to decorative accessories, bold graphics can be seen in the home decor industry and are becoming designers go-to way to make a statement in interior spaces. Fall couture runways showcased dramatic bold prints and patterns that resembled artwork and designers like myself are taking notice. Showcased above is a dress from Elie Saab’s Fall Couture runway show. I love how versatile something as bold as the above flower print can be from Wall & Deco and the movement that it brings to this space is breathtaking!
METALLIC FINISHES
Metallic finishes and details are popping up in both the fashion and the interior design world for this fall. From kitchen appliances to desk accessories, metallic details are back with a vengeance. Metallics are being used in a more modern applications to add touches of glamour to more fresh and clean lined spaces and attires. I must admit, I’m beginning to fall in love with rose gold and copper more than yellow gold, especially, after checking out the fabulousness that is happening on the runways! DEEP BLUE HUES AND VELVET
The combination of deep hues of blues and velvet instantly add a sense of richness and intrigue to fashion and interiors. I was inspired by this trend immensely and used it in our design for the new 51fifteen inside of Saks Fifth Avenue for the fabric on the booth seating and half of the chairs. Blue and velvet are so posh and sophisticated when used together and create a luxurious final result.
STATEMENT FURS
Oversized fur blankets and scarves will be all the rage this fall. Add it to a sleek outfit, chair or bedding to get the ultimate “WOW” factor.
LEATHER AND FRINGE
A trend that will never fade from our winter wardrobe is leather which now packs a lethal combination with fringe in a must-have fall duo. Leather and fringe are now taking over the design world with chic throw pillows and accessories.
