WHEN TWO BECOME ONE: How to Mix Your Modern Style With His Manly Decor

Okay,  so I think we have all been there before. You’ve decided to take your relationship to the next level and move in with your significant other. Whether you’re a young couple in a studio apartment or excited newlyweds that are in the process of building your first home, you will soon realize there’s more to co-habitation than just combining your cookware!

One of the biggest issues that most couples face is having to sort through each other’s belongings to see what stays and what goes when moving in together. I know what you’re thinking! You are assuming that this may be the perfect opportunity to get rid of your significant others ugly 1980’s recliner. WRONG! These items may have special meanings to your new roomie and it would not be advisable to start a new relationship on the wrong foot. Whether it be old or new, giving up relics from the bachelor or bachelorette days can be tough.

Even as a designer I had to compromise when it came to decorating certain aspects of my house with my husband. It’s all fun and lovely until you try and get rid of any of “my favorite items“. So here’s a tip: if you want to make use of each other’s things, you may have more success finding ways to mix both of your styles.

I believe that opposites attract, so it’s obvious that couples will have contrasting styles when it comes to interior design and decor, so I have comprised a mix and match guide for couples home décor and hopefully, this will help in merging both styles without causing any arguments.

Now that this is out of the way, the next step is to mentally prepare yourself to spend every waking moment with the one you love. Just a word to the wise ladies, no matter how many times you tell him, the toilet seat will never be put down.
